Wellkept started from a fairly ordinary frustration: most of what you can actually buy for a room is either disposable or priced as though it were furniture. There is a lot of nothing in between.
So that is where we look. Lighting mostly — pendants, floor lamps, wall lights — alongside clocks and planters. Objects that do one job properly and do not announce themselves while doing it.
How we choose
The range is deliberately small. We would rather stock eleven things we can describe precisely than forty we cannot. Everything here is held in a UK warehouse and dispatched from the UK, so nothing is coming to you from six weeks away.
What we promise about the words
More than it sounds like. If a glass shade is fluted rather than ribbed, we call it fluted. If the frame is walnut-brown rather than pale oak, we say walnut-brown. If something arrives with its ceiling rose but we cannot confirm what else is in the box, we tell you that too rather than guessing in your favour.
You should be able to read a Wellkept listing and know what will turn up. That is the whole standard, and it is a lower bar than it ought to be.
Where we are
Wellkept is a small operation run from the UK. If something is wrong, or you want to know more about a piece before you commit to it, write to hello@wellkeptgoods.co.uk and a person will answer.
